Windows Compatibility - Wissen 16-bit Applications

If you wish to run your old Wissen software on a Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 computer it may be possible but we recommend upgrading. If your Windows XP/Vista/7/8/10 is a 64-bit edition it is impossible to run the old 16-bit Wissen applications. If it is a 32-bit edition it is possible to run it so long as you upgrade the dongle. This is the minimum possible requirement.

Running Wissen 16-bit applications with Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10

Note: Wissen 16-bit applications were originally designed for Windows 3.1. Wissen UK does not support the use of 16-bit applications under Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7/8/10 and we make no guarantee that the applications will function correctly. This information is provided for the benefit of those that wish to try.

64-bit editions of Windows

Windows 16-bit applications will not run on 64-bit platforms. If you are running any 64-bit version of Windows you cannot run your old Wissen software.

32-bit editions of Windows

• Versions earlier than 4.0 will not recognise Truetype fonts.
• Dongles - Activator and Sentinel C+B keys will not work with Windows versions later than Windows 98. If your serial number has 8 digits it is likely that you have an unsupported dongle. Dongle upgrades are available.
• Dongle drivers - If you have a Sentinel Super pro dongle, the latest version of the "Sentinel Protection Installer" will be required. You can download by clicking here
• Output to cutters - In some rare cases it may not be possible to output to your cutter. This would usually be due to security privileges.
• Output to virtual ports such as USB to Serial/Parallel adaptors is not always possible.
• Output to a cutter attached to any port shared by a printer driver will not be possible.
• Type 1 (Postscript) Fonts are not supported.
• Text Entry - To enter a new line hold the CTRL key while pressing ENTER.
• Font List - Multiple entries of some fonts will appear.
• Output to printers may not be possible. This is especially likely in the case of USB printers.
